Melksham Charity Netball Tournament
Melksham Netball Club held a fundraising tournament on Sunday 21st January and raised £223 for the club and £1,000 for Wiltshire Air Ambulance. The tournament was held to mark what would have been the 40thbirthday of former player Michelle Phillips who sadly died in a car accident in 2004. Teams from all over Wiltshire took part, with even players from the Vale team travelling from Oxford on a very wet and windy day to the sports dome at Chippenham, over 100 ladies playing netball all day.
The tournament was won by Melksham Robins, following a tough final with Chippenham. A fitting tribute as five of the Melksham team used to play with Michelle who was a very strong Goal Defence for the Melksham Team.
Not only was the tournament well supported by local teams, and by so many local businesses who donated raffle prizes but Rachel Shaw, a Team Bath Superleague and former England player spent the afternoon at the Dome and had the unenviable task of choosing the “Player of the Final” which was awarded to Cath Watts of Melksham; the player who had been awarded the most “Player of the Match” during the tournament was Sara Edes of Calne. Rachel presented the prizes alongside Marsha the new Wiltshire Air Ambulance mascot and Michelle’s parents John and Sandra Phillips.
Eboni Beckford-Chambers, another Team Bath and England player has donated an hour’s training session which is now being auctioned along with a helicopter ride and signed Bath Rugby shirt with all the funds going to Wiltshire Air Ambulance.

Mo Squires picks up 3 Netball Awards
Swindon-based volunteer, Mo Squires, celebrated a record-breaking night at England Netball’s National Goalden Globe Awards by taking away 3 awards from 3 different categories – the most ever won by a single volunteer in one year.
The Goalden Globe Awards (which this year were held at the National Conference Centre in Birmingham on Saturday 16th September), are designed to celebrate the remarkable contribution that volunteers make to the delivery of netball across the country. They look to thank individuals who have given up a huge amount of time in all aspects of netball volunteering.
Mo, Raychem Netball Club’s founder and current Chairperson, started the evening by collecting the National Long Service Award for her dedication to netball in Wiltshire over the past 40 years. During this time, Mo has held numerous coaching, administration and committee roles at club and league/county levels and has made a significant impact on the development and delivery of netball across Swindon and Wiltshire.

On behalf of the Vixens I would like to thank the County Committee for their financial assistance in 2015. It certainly made it easier for us to establish the Vixens as a fully constituted Club.
20th November 2016
£243 was raised at the County Schools Tournaments and, with subsequent donations, the total is now over £300 for the Alzheimer's Society in memory of Sylv Maisey, a former Pinehurst, Wiltshire and England player.
Well done everyone!
